Telling the Family

We decided to only tell our immediate family for now, since it's still so early. We started with Debbie, Josh's mom. She was going out of town this past Wednesday, and we were supposed to take her to the airport. Little did we know that we were going to be at the doctor for 2 hours! Since we weren't able to take her, she wanted us to meet her there to get her keys, so we could take her new car home and it wouldn't have to sit at the airport for 6 days. A little background: about 2 months ago, she bought a new 2-door, Mercedes SLK. We told her when she was getting it that she wouldn't be able to drive a grandbaby around in it and that she should take a look at some of the 4-door models. She said "when y'all have a baby, I'll trade it in!" She didn't realize how soon that might be! When we met her at the airport, we handed her a rolled-up magazine for some "reading on the plane." It was an Autotrader magazine. When she unrolled it, she didn't get it at first and unenthusiastically said, "Thanks." Then...we jokingly said, "Look at it carefully, you have 8 months to find a new car!" She got it and started screaming and hugging! She said she couldn't wait to think up her "grandma" name on the plane!

For my parents, we told them that our neighborhood was having a wine and jazz festival on Friday night and that they should drive up for it. They were excited and said they'd be here. When they arrived, we had a tray with cheeses and crackers, and two glasses of wine waiting for them. Leaning against the bottle of wine was a card addressed to them. When they opened the card, the front said, "We're expanding our home by 2 feet..." confused, they opened it. The inside had a stamp of two baby feet and said, "...Addition to be completed on May 18, 2010!" My mom got it right away and started jumping, screaming, and hugging, while my dad was still trying to figure out why in the world we were adding 2 feet to our brand new home! Then, he got it! We were all so excited!!!
